Understanding Data Differences Between Google Analytics and Search Console Insights

Learn why Google Analytics and Search Console Insights data differ and how to interpret these differences accurately.

Google Analytics (GA) and Search Console Insights (GSC Insights) provide different types of data because they measure distinct user behaviours. GA tracks user activity on your website, while GSC Insights focuses on how users find your content via Google Search. When comparing data, note that GSC Insights uses GA's page title dimension rather than URLs, which can aggregate multiple URLs under one title. Additionally, GSC Insights shows data for the last 28 days using Pacific Daylight Time, which may differ from GA's time settings. Metrics also differ: GSC Insights combines GA metrics like pageviews and average time on page with Search metrics such as clicks and average position, each calculated differently. Understanding these distinctions helps you interpret your site's performance more accurately and avoid confusion when analysing reports from both tools. [Google]
